Manchester United have focused intensely on strengthening their midfield during the current summer transfer window, but have faced challenges. The club encountered obstacles after failing to sign Elliot Anderson, who transferred to Manchester City, and Mateus Fernandes, who chose to move to Tottenham Hotspur from West Ham.

Previously, Manchester United had reached a £35m deal with Italian Serie A team Atalanta to sign talented Brazilian World Cup standout player Ederson. However, this transaction has been suspended indefinitely.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s Andrey Santos has already undergone a medical ahead of his expected £48m move. Other signings for the United squad are expected in the coming weeks.

Currently, the only central midfielder with established experience in the United squad is Kobbie Mainoo, who is yet to feature in England’s World Cup campaign. The search for reinforcements is, therefore, crucial for the team.

Sources close to the club indicated that Tielemans’ contract with Aston Villa has a release clause, which simplifies and speeds up negotiations. A deal is close to being finalized, according to reports.

The 29-year-old has been on Manchester United’s radar for some time and has extensive experience in the Premier League, a characteristic considered a great asset by the club’s management. His adaptation to English football is a positive point.

Tielemans was a key player in Belgium’s journey to the World Cup quarter-finals. However, he was forced to leave the match against Spain, which ended in a 2-1 defeat, after suffering an injury during the pre-game warm-up.

Agreement for midfielder Ederson is paused by Manchester United

Rumors about the possible cancellation of Ederson’s transfer began to circulate over the weekend, after initial reports last week pointed to a problem related to the athlete’s knee injury.

The 27-year-old underwent a full medical assessment after initial tests, carried out in the United States, identified an area of concern to the club’s medical team.

Ederson traveled to England to complete the necessary exams, a process that took place shortly after Brazil’s defeat to Norway in the round of 16 of the World Cup. Experts actively participated in the evaluation, and the result led Manchester United to temporarily withdraw from the negotiation.

However, reports indicate that the transfer could still be resumed at a later point in this summer window, depending on how the market develops for United. The club, however, is not willing to approve any agreement under the terms initially proposed.

Although Manchester United officials express solidarity with the player, they say they must always act with the club’s best interests in mind.

It is important to highlight that the hiring of Andrey Santos, whose arrival is expected at the beginning of this week, had no relation to the difficulties or problems that arose in the negotiations involving Ederson.
