Grêmio finalized the signing of Croatian midfielder Filip Krovinović, 30 years old, on July 27, 2026. The player signed a contract with the club from Rio Grande do Sul that extends until the end of 2028. Right-handed, Krovinović arrives to play as an attacking midfielder, a position that the tricolor sought to reinforce since the beginning of the season.
Krovinović was previously at Hajduk Split, the team that finished runners-up in Croatia last season. A relevant point for his arrival at Grêmio is that the athlete has already worked with the current tricolor coach, Luís Castro, between 2016 and 2017, during their time at Rio Ave, in Portugal.
The midfielder began his professional career in the youth teams of NK Zagreb. In 2015, he moved to Portuguese football, where he played for Rio Ave. Later, in 2017, he was signed by Benfica, but had few chances to show his football in the main team.
In 2019, Krovinović was loaned to West Bromwich, England. He played an important role in the campaign that guaranteed the team’s access to the Premier League in the 2019/2020 season, consolidating his experience in high-level leagues.
At the beginning of 2021, the player played for Nottingham Forest, still on loan from Benfica. In July of the same year, Krovinović permanently left the Portuguese club to join Hajduk Split, where he won the Croatian Cup in the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 editions.
Filip Krovinović also had spells with Croatia’s youth teams, representing the country at Under-19 and Under-21 levels throughout his training.
