Journalist Eduardo Vieira de Lima Meirelles, born in Luziânia, Goiás, died at the age of 30 after suffering illness in his apartment in Rio de Janeiro. A família confirmou o falecimento do profissional, que se destacou por sua formação em jornalismo pela Universidade de Brasília (UnB) e passagens por veículos como Poder360 e Revista Fórum, além de atuar na assessoria de imprensa do Senado Federal. He became nationally known for authoring the biography “Lucélia Santos: Courage to Fight”.

Eduardo’s death occurred on July 29, 2026. The news generated a wave of tributes on social media, with expressions of condolence from family, friends and professional colleagues who worked with him.

Actress Lucélia Santos, protagonist of the soap opera “Escrava Isaura” and subject of the biography written by Eduardo, expressed her pain: “How much life! How much passion you always had in everything you did and created here. I can’t believe it. Fly, Duda, with the angels and Peace. I love you eternally”.

Investigation into the cause of the journalist’s death

The journalist’s cousin, vocalist Sol Leles, explained that Eduardo fell ill in the early hours of the morning after returning from a dinner with friends. He sought help from the building’s doorman to call an ambulance, but when he returned to the apartment, he had already died before help arrived. The family awaits clarification, but the main hypothesis for sudden death is a heart attack.

Sol Leles said that, as a child, Eduardo was diagnosed with a heart murmur, at the age of 9. At the time, a doctor suggested the need for surgery, but the procedure was never performed, and he lived without any major health problems until then. This information adds important context to the sudden fatality.

The journalist’s body arrived in his hometown, Luziânia, in the early hours of July 30, 2026, where the wake and burial will take place.

Family and friends remember journalist as a brilliant young man

For the family, the loss of Eduardo, known affectionately as Dudu, is devastating. Sol Leles described his cousin as a “brilliant young man” and “genius”, someone who left his mark and was recognized as a “warrior” for his intelligence and dedication to intense values.

Sol recalled that Eduardo was always a boy with great aspirations, seeking to be a valuable and important person. She considered him a “genius”, capable of discussing complex subjects since his adolescence, and with a strong spirituality.

At 30 years old, Eduardo had already achieved many achievements. His cousin described him as audacious, someone who lived life intensely, dedicated himself to his studies and had a great interest in politics. She also highlighted her bubbly personality, “family energy” and an “explosion of light” that radiated to everyone.

Among his big dreams, Eduardo wanted to complete the book he was writing, travel to many places and participate in various commissions, driven by an “absurd sense of justice”.
