HarmonyOS 7 beta receives direct charging feature that protects the battery
Huawei has consistently innovated for its users, and the latest beta version of its operating system, HarmonyOS 7, which began shipping on August 8, 2026 to select devices, follows this trend. The update introduces practical functionality that will benefit many.
Users who frequently keep their cell phones connected to power for long periods face the risk of battery deterioration, mainly due to overheating. This new solution from the Chinese giant aims precisely to mitigate this common problem, contributing to the longevity of devices and, consequently, to significant savings by avoiding frequent device changes.

The functionality called “direct power supply”, or direct power supply, allows the device to receive electricity directly from the socket. As a result, the battery is not overcharged, representing an insightful innovation that has already been tested with several users.

The new feature was identified in the most recent closed beta version of HarmonyOS 7, with build 7.0.0.100. Although the official information only mentioned visual improvements to the interface, vigilant users soon spotted this valuable function hidden in the system settings.
When using, it is possible to configure a percentage charge limit for the cell phone. When this percentage is reached, battery charging stops, and the energy starts directly feeding the device’s internal components. The system is activated for a single session and automatically deactivates afterwards.
Which devices can receive the update with the feature
For now, this functionality has not yet been released to all users. Huawei is conducting tests on a select group of high-performance smartphones, ensuring complete software stability before its worldwide distribution.

- Pura 90 Series
- Standard Pura X Max
- Nova 16 Series
- Mate 80 Pro and Mate 80 Pro Max
- Mate 70 Pro and Mate 70 Pro+
- Pura 80 Pro+

Flexibility is a key point that the technology company prioritizes in this update. Instead of establishing a fixed limit, the interface allows the user to precisely select the percentage at which energy will be directed to the device, with options ranging from 20% to 80%.
This methodology adopted in HarmonyOS 7.0 reaffirms Huawei’s commitment to introducing practical improvements that directly impact the durability of electronic devices. The expectation now is to expand this update to other models and then to the global market.
