Meta, in collaboration with Ray-Ban and EssilorLuxottica, has launched a new generation of smart glasses, the Meta Ray-Ban Display, promising an unprecedented integration of artificial intelligence and natural interaction. Announced during the Meta Connect event, the device, which hits stores in the United States starting at US$799, is accompanied by the innovative Meta Neural Band, a bracelet that interprets muscle signals for digital commands. This technology aims to keep users connected to the digital world without disconnecting from the physical environment around them.

A new way of interacting with technology

The central purpose of Meta Ray-Ban Display is to offer a connected experience in a discreet way, allowing people to remain attentive to the present. As Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, explained, the glasses were designed so that daily tasks, such as checking messages, viewing photos or collaborating with Meta AI, can be performed with a quick glance at the lens display, eliminating the need to pick up your smartphone. This device integrates microphones, speakers, cameras and a high-resolution color screen into a single accessory, with the display only appearing when activated.

The innovation behind the Meta Neural Band bracelet

One of the highlights of the launch is the Meta Neural Band, a bracelet that uses surface electromyography (EMG) to capture muscle signals from the wrist. This technology allows you to translate subtle movements of your fingers or wrist into digital commands, making it possible to navigate through menus, scroll through information and even write messages silently. The company reinforces that the development of these algorithms was a “huge technical feat”, based on data from almost 200 thousand participants, which guarantees the bracelet’s functionality for practically anyone. The feature opens significant doors for accessibility, especially for individuals with motor limitations, with potential for application to other devices in the future.

Classic design meets advanced functionality

Maintaining Ray-Ban’s traditional aesthetic, the smart glasses were inspired by the Wayfarer line, available in Black and Sand colors, and in two sizes. All models come equipped with Transitions lenses, which automatically adapt to different light conditions, offering versatility for continuous use. With user comfort in mind, the frame weighs just 69 grams, incorporating ultra-thin batteries and titanium rods for lightness and durability. Battery life is up to six hours of continuous use, extending to 30 hours with the portable charging case.

Multimodal capabilities transform the daily experience

The Meta Ray-Ban Display hits the market with a series of features that combine hardware, software and artificial intelligence to enrich everyday life:

  • Meta AI with Visuals:Meta’s artificial intelligence displays turn-by-turn instructions directly on the glasses’ display, rather than just providing voice responses.
  • Messaging and video calls:Direct integration with WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram, allowing you to read and respond to messages or transmit what you are seeing in real time.
  • Live translation and subtitles:Ability to transcribe conversations and translate languages in real time, facilitating communication.
  • Pedestrian Navigation:Visual maps and route instructions displayed directly on the display.
  • Music and podcasts:Intuitive control for streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music.
  • Photography and video:Built-in camera with real-time viewfinder and zoom functions to capture and share moments.

Meta plans to constantly update these experiences through software, continually expanding the device’s capabilities.

Initial availability and access challenges

The Meta Ray-Ban Display is initially available in a limited number of stores in the United States, including Best Buy, LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut, Ray-Ban Stores and Meta Lab. The company has already confirmed partnerships with Verizon and international expansion plans for Canada, France, Italy and the United Kingdom in 2026. To purchase the product, consumers must schedule an in-person demonstration, a requirement that ensures the glasses fit accurately to the wearer’s face and the Meta Neural Band is correctly configured. Due to high demand, demo times at many stores are sold out through November, but Meta is committed to increasing the number of locations and opening new spots daily. There is also the option of customizing the glasses with prescription lenses, for an additional cost.

Meta Ray-Ban Display smart glasses represent a strategic move by Meta into the future of personal computing, positioning wearable devices as the central point of interaction between people and technology. The company reinforces its commitment to augmented reality and multimodal artificial intelligence, seeking devices that balance style, functionality and accessibility.
