Nearly half of Brazilian consumers have already decided what to buy before Black Friday 2026 officially begins. Data released on October 15, 2026 show that this early planning happens in a market where most small online stores are run by a single worker, who often handles sales from a cell phone.

Cross-checked surveys from Google and the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae) point to heavy pressure on retailers ahead of the promotional period. Eduardo Lemos, vice-president of operations at Cielo, said that the lack of staff demands fast answers on digital channels to avoid losses at the counter. “Someone who runs the business alone doesn’t have half an hour for a phone call, especially in November. If the answer doesn’t come in minutes, the cost shows up in the store, with a customer waiting,” the executive said.

Shoppers finish their plans weeks before the sale starts

Google’s survey on Black Friday 2026, carried out with the Offerwise institute, interviewed 2,000 consumers in Brazil during July 2026 and published its results in August. The research shows that the discount season draws buyers weeks before the official retail date, so stock and payment systems need to be ready early. Other coverage of the same study reports that 41% of respondents expect to spend more than in 2025.

  • 48% of respondents already have their shopping list ready before the official start of the promotional season.
  • 44% compare prices and payment conditions in advance.
  • 5.5 is the average number of different product categories each consumer plans to buy during the period.
  • 60% say the date is the only time of the year worth planning for higher-value purchases.

Sebrae finds one person handles sales in most small online stores

While shoppers get ahead, most small retail in Brazil stays in the hands of its owner. The Radar Mercado Digital 2026 survey, carried out by Sebrae with the E-Commerce Brasil association, interviewed 3,081 business owners from every region of the country. It found that online sales are run by a single professional in 59.2% of small businesses.

The share changes with revenue and legal status. Among micro-entrepreneurs (MEI), a category for formalized self-employed workers, solo management of the online store reaches 76.2% of the businesses assessed. Among microenterprises (ME) the rate falls to 42.2%, and among small companies (EPP) it stands at 28.9% run by a single employee.

Five administrative tasks move to the phone before Black Friday

With no staff to share service and administration in nearly six out of ten small digital businesses, tools that once depended on computers, email or phone calls have shifted to smartphones. According to Lemos, five administrative activities are now done directly on the cell phone to save shopkeepers time.

  • Real-time cash check, showing amounts received, amounts to receive and the exact date the money reaches the bank account, without waiting for emailed reports.
  • Bank statement lookup through plain-language commands, so the shopkeeper describes the period wanted without going through several filters and menus.
  • Immediate issue of letters, receipts and documents requested by the accountant, without formal requests or waiting periods.
  • Payment link generation on the device to close sales agreed by phone or social media with customers who are not in the physical store.
  • Direct tracking of technical support and service tickets, avoiding calls just to check whether a problem is under review.

For Lemos, the main change is not in the nature of financial obligations, which once consumed an entire morning, but in how fast they can be completed through an app. “The entrepreneur no longer wants to be informed; he wants to leave the conversation with the problem solved. In a month of above-normal sales, five minutes saved per task makes a difference in service,” said the Cielo vice-president.

Only 28.1% of small digital sellers use marketplaces

The data on the overload of individual entrepreneurs are part of a broader picture of the national productive sector. Sebrae presented the figures on July 29, 2026 at the E-Commerce Brasil Forum, held at Distrito Anhembi in São Paulo and led by chief executive officer Bruno Pati. At the event, the survey showed that micro-entrepreneurs, microenterprises and small companies together total 24 million businesses, more than 90% of active legal entities (CNPJ) registered in Brazil.

Despite the economic weight of the segment, these companies still have limited presence on large virtual storefronts. Sebrae’s study found that only 28.1% of small businesses selling online use marketplace platforms, which are virtual shopping malls where several stores advertise products. Besides, 78.8% of small digital entrepreneurs work through just one or two sales channels, and 72.6% of those on marketplaces earn up to 40% of their total digital revenue from these platforms.

Ivan Tonet, deputy manager of the Market Access Unit at Sebrae National, highlighted the expansion difficulty faced by owners who carry every administrative and commercial function. “An entrepreneur who does everything alone can’t run a well-done digital operation. We want to prepare MSEs to sell more and better across different channels,” said Tonet. The Procon-SP recommends that consumers start tracking prices now to avoid false promotions. In 2026, November 20, a national holiday, falls on the Friday before Black Friday, which is officially set for November 27, 2026.
