Accident on LMG-602: trailer driver trapped in wreckage is rescued in São João do Paraíso
LMG-602, a highway that runs through São João do Paraíso, in the North of Minas Gerais, was the scene of a serious accident last Thursday (25). A tractor-trailer driver got his head stuck between the cab’s hardware and the ground. The extremely dangerous situation required a quick and complex rescue operation.
Coordinated firefighter rescue action
After recording the cargo vehicle overturning, teams from the Fire Department of the 8th Salinas Platoon were quickly called and moved to the section of LMG-602 where the incident occurred. The initial mobilization focused on evaluating the scene and the safety of the location, given the complexity of the accident.
The delicate extrication procedure

At the scene of the accident, rescue professionals confirmed the seriousness of the incident, finding the driver with his head completely immobilized by the metal structures of the truck. Before any movement, it was essential to stabilize the overturned trailer to avoid additional risks and ensure the driver’s safety. Firefighters then employed specialized extrication techniques, seeking to free the victim with the utmost caution and precision.
Medical diagnosis after serious accident
As soon as the driver was freed from the wreckage, a team from the São João do Paraíso Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) was already waiting to provide first aid. The 30-year-old man was diagnosed with traumatic brain injury, in addition to a suspected fractured collarbone and severe chest pain. These injuries, particularly head trauma, are considered highly serious and require immediate medical intervention to minimize sequelae and ensure the victim’s recovery. He was later transferred to the hospital in the city of Taiobeiras to continue specialized treatment.
The oil leak and track safety
While the teams were working to rescue the victim and remove the vehicle, the military identified a significant oil leak on the highway pavement. To ensure the safety of other drivers and prevent new accidents from occurring due to the slippery road, sawdust was applied to the affected area, neutralizing the risk after the rescue operation was completed.
Security forces act together in emergencies
The complex emergency operation, from initial care to stabilizing the scene and rescuing the victim, was the result of an integrated action between different agencies. In addition to the Fire Department and Samu, the Military Police and Civil Defense also played crucial roles, ensuring traffic organization, perimeter security and the necessary support throughout the process.
