An exclusive example of the 2026 Corvette ZR1X fetched an impressive $2.6 million at a recent auction. All proceeds will be donated in full to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an institution dedicated to supporting American veterans and first responders. The event took place at the prestigious 2026 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction.
The vehicle, which represents a unique edition inspired by the Stars & Steel project, was the center of attention on Saturday, January 24th. It celebrates engineering and American pride, referencing the fastest car from a U.S. manufacturer to complete a lap of the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit.
Impressive value at exclusive car auction
The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X model, a production car with unique characteristics, was the highlight of the event. Its sale for US$2.6 million underlines not only the intrinsic value of the vehicle, but also the noble cause it represented. The transaction took place during the busy Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale.
Extensive support from the Tunnel to Towers Foundation
All proceeds from the sale of the Corvette ZR1X will go to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. This organization has a remarkable history of assisting American heroes by offering a range of essential services. The foundation’s actions include:
- Providing mortgage-free housing for families of military personnel killed in combat and first responders who died in the line of duty and left behind young children.
- Building smart, custom homes equipped to meet the specific needs of seriously injured veterans and first responders.
- Offering housing and support services for homeless veterans, guaranteeing them a fresh start and dignity.
Tunnel to Towers’ mission echoes the spirit of selfless service of its founder, Stephen Siller, a firefighter who sacrificed his life in the September 11 attacks. He ran through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel to help others, a legacy of heroism that the foundation strives to perpetuate.

Buyer and custom design details
Businessman Rick Hendrick, who chairs and is CEO of the Hendrick Automotive Group, in addition to being the owner of Hendrick Motorsports, was the lucky bidder of the Corvette ZR1X. He will receive a vehicle with an exclusive paint job, carefully hand-applied by General Motors Design and Manufacturing experts.
The custom Dark Satin Steel finish stands out, complemented by vibrant blue details on various parts of the car, such as the brake calipers, the Santorini Blue interior and the Carbon Aero rear wing elements. Hendrick will also have the opportunity to personally assemble the twin-turbo V8 engine of his ZR1X and participate in the first delivery of a Corvette at the GM Design Dome.
Long history of support between Chevrolet and the foundation
The partnership between General Motors and Chevrolet with the Tunnel to Towers Foundation is long-standing, marked by ongoing commitment. Over the 12 years leading up to this auction, the companies collaborated to raise more than $11.6 million in support of wounded veterans, demonstrating a consistent dedication to the cause.
Adding to previous efforts, the sale of this Corvette ZR1X brings Chevrolet’s total proceeds from Barrett-Jackson charity auctions, specifically eighth-generation Corvette models, to an impressive $15.5 million. This solidifies the brand’s tradition of transforming automotive performance into a greater purpose for society, honoring the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Return of Custom Engine Mount
This auction also marked the return of a highly acclaimed program: “Monte Seu Próprio Motor”. This exclusive experience, which has not been offered for the Corvette since 2019, allows Chevrolet to position itself as the only automotive brand to provide its customers with the opportunity to assemble their own car’s engine directly at the factory.
Starting next spring, buyers of new Corvette Z06, ZR1 or ZR1X models will be able to include this unique experience in their orders. They will work alongside master assemblers at the Bowling Green factory’s Performance Assembly Center, where they can assemble and even autograph the V8 engine that will power their new Corvette. All pieces used are of American and global origin, guaranteeing the quality and legacy of the brand.
