New steps towards the launch of the long-awaited Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2 have been taken by Samsung. Both devices recently obtained an important certification in Thailand, signaling that the official presentation to the public is getting closer.
Samsung expects to present, in addition to its new foldable models, two smartwatches during the Galaxy Unpacked event. Although the official announcement is just a few weeks away, the smartwatches have received certification from the Thai NBTC, confirming their model numbers and commercial names and reinforcing the imminence of their arrival on the market.
New certifications confirm details of the Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2
The certification process revealed two specific model numbers for the Galaxy Watch 9: “SM-L345F” and “SM-L355F”, which indicate the existence of two size variants for the device. The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, which will follow up on the Ultra model launched the previous year, has the model number “SM-L715F”.
Typically, these records do not detail the technical specifications of the products. However, the presence of the letter “F” in the codes suggests that these are global versions of the devices, capable of supporting 4G technology. Fortunately, information obtained through leaks has already provided relevant data about the South Korean giant’s next smartwatches, especially with regard to the Ultra model.
Expectation of 5,000 nits screen for the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2
Regarding the screen, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 should maintain most of the physical characteristics of the panel found in the current model. The information points to the continuation of a 1.5-inch display, with a resolution of 480 x 480 pixels and a pixel density of 327 ppi.
The main innovation expected for this component is the significant increase in maximum brightness, which can reach an impressive 5,000 nits. Although the leaks do not specify whether Samsung will adopt a traditional OLED panel or MicroLED technology, the strongest hypothesis among experts continues to be the use of an improved OLED display.
Another innovative feature mentioned is the possible integration of On-Cell Film (OCF) technology, which was introduced by Samsung Display during MWC 2025. This solution aims to provide an increase in screen brightness without a significant impact on power consumption, while also improving the visibility of content outdoors in bright light.
In addition to the screen, the watch also promises advances in its robustness. Rumors indicate that the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 could be launched with IP69K certification, a considerable improvement over the IP68 standard present in the original Galaxy Watch Ultra. This classification provides even more effective protection against dust and resistance to water jets at high pressure and temperature, ideal for users who carry out activities in extreme conditions or who require a device with superior durability for aggressive environments.
Expected improvements in processor and battery life
The information circulating also suggests an updated set of hardware for the new models. The smartwatch may come equipped with Snapdragon Wear Elite, the latest platform developed by Qualcomm specifically for smart watches. This chip is expected to offer improved performance and greater energy consumption efficiency.
One of the possible additional highlights is the inclusion of an 800 mAh battery, which has the potential to provide greater autonomy compared to the previous model. Furthermore, the watch should be launched with the One UI 9 Watch interface, which is based on the Wear OS 7 operating system, bringing with it a series of new features focused on health, physical activities and optimized integration with the Galaxy ecosystem.
