The French team spoke out again about the regrettable racist attacks directed at Kylian Mbappé, shortly before the quarter-finals of the World Cup. This Monday, assistant coach Guy Stéphan used terms such as “shameful, abject and scandalous” to describe the incident, stating that the coaching staff shares the indignation of the French federation and the player himself.
The discriminatory comments were made by Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla, after Paraguay’s elimination in the second phase of the world competition. These attacks had already provoked a strong reaction from the French Football Federation and Mbappé himself, who had labeled the political figure as “despicable”, highlighting the seriousness of statements coming from a public authority.

“We found out about what happened. We haven’t had the chance to talk to Kylian about it yet. In short, it’s shameful, abject, scandalous. Naturally, I share the Federation’s and Kylian’s feelings,” declared Stéphan, emphasizing the seriousness of the episode.
The case gained wide repercussion after the French Football Federation (FFF) formalized a complaint against the racist attacks directed at Mbappé. The French star was decisive in the 1-0 victory over Paraguay in the round of 16, scoring the goal that guaranteed qualification in a clash marked by intense marking and provocations.
Information about the game against Paraguay, including the best moments, was widely publicized.
“The racist demonstrations by Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla against Kylian Mbappé are completely repugnant and unacceptable,” said the FFF in an official statement.
French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari also spoke out, adding: “France strongly condemns the racist attacks to which Kylian Mbappé was subjected. These statements are abominable, shameful and even more intolerable coming from a political figure.”
French preparation for the duel with Morocco
In addition to addressing the situation involving the team’s main star, Stéphan also provided details about the team’s next challenge in the World Cup. Next Thursday, in the city of Boston, the French team will face Morocco, in a match valid for the quarter-finals of the tournament.
The technical assistant revealed that the committee has already started specific preparation for the important clash.
“We have been preparing since our classification against Paraguay. We have already started significant video analysis work. The closer we get to the match, the more the focus of the work will be directed to our opponent”, explained Stéphan.
He added, analyzing the change of opponent: “The match against Paraguay was intense, exhausting both physically and mentally. We cannot dwell on it, although it was a valuable experience. Now, we will face a team that plays differently and has great technical ability. It will, in fact, be a different match.”
France reaches the quarterfinals with an impeccable campaign, registering five wins in five games in the current edition of the World Cup. This performance equals a historic mark for the French team, which had not been achieved for 42 years at the 2026 World Cup.
