Botafogo keeps the fate of midfielder Montoro, one of the main jewels of the squad, along with Danilo, open. The player has attracted the interest of several teams during this transfer period, including River Plate, from Argentina, which is monitoring his situation, as determined this Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
Initially, the Rio club’s plan was to negotiate Montoro for an amount between 25 and 30 million euros, which is equivalent to an amount between R$146 million and R$175 million at the current price. However, Botafogo is still awaiting the arrival of a formal offer for the athlete.
While River Plate is watching Montoro, the South American club is also making efforts to try to acquire Thiago Almada, from Atlético de Madrid. In addition to Argentine interest, Montoro is under the radar of European football clubs, and Botafogo shows an inclination to prioritize a sale to the Old Continent, aiming for a greater financial return and projection for the athlete.

Botafogo’s internal evaluation considers Montoro a player with significant market value, driven by his age, technical quality, great potential for evolution and the experience already accumulated in South American football. The club expects that concrete proposals for his departure will be presented soon, especially with the opening of the next transfer window, scheduled for July 20th.
Botafogo’s strategic market planning predicted a total revenue of up to 70 million euros, combining the potential sales of both Montoro and Danilo.
At just 19 years old, Montoro is considered a young Argentine promise and has been a constant presence in his country’s youth teams. In the 2025 season, the player played 23 games for Botafogo, scored four times and contributed three assists. His performances, even with an adaptation period, stood out under the technical management of Davide Ancelotti.
Montoro’s adaptation with the current Botafogo coach, Franclim Carvalho, took longer to materialize. Only in the final moments, before the calendar was interrupted, did the Argentine midfielder manage a run of five starts. During the management of the new technical committee, Montoro only scored once. In fact, in one of the training games organized by Franclim to prepare for the season, Montoro was selected for the reserve team, facing Bonsucesso.
