Noto earthquake: death toll reaches 748 with recognition of 4 new victims in Ishikawa
On Monday, July 14, Ishikawa Prefecture announced the inclusion of four additional people in the list of fatalities from the earthquake that hit the Noto Peninsula in 2024. With this update, the number of deaths related to the disaster reaches 520, a total that also covers 14 fatalities recorded in Niigata and Toyama prefectures. Added to the 228 direct deaths caused by structural collapses and other immediate events, the overall death toll as a result of the tremor reached 748.
Also on Monday, July 14, authorities in the cities of Nanao, Nakanoto, Anamizu and Noto carried out a joint analysis of 13 requests for death recognition. Of this total, two applications from Nanao and two others from Noto received preliminary approval, with formalization expected soon by both municipalities. The remaining nine requests were not granted after the evaluation.
