Novak Djokovic, former world number one, has again proposed significant changes to tennis. The Serbian athlete defended, on August 2, 2026, that the scoring system be modified to limit the duration of matches to a maximum of two hours.

The 39-year-old tennis player’s suggestion was shared by Nick Coutracos, a content creator from the United States. Coutracos questioned Djokovic about what change he would defend in tennis, regardless of the criticism.

“We should change the scoring format. Instead of playing up to six games per set, playing up to four, possibly without an advantage, in best of five sets. Keeping the matches within a two-hour window. It’s best for everyone”, declared the current number five in the world rankings.

Novak Djokovic was one of the co-founders of the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA). This organization was established in 2020 with the mission of defending the interests of athletes before other important sports entities, such as the Association of Professional Tennis Players (ATP) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).

PTPA’s main agendas included the review of the tournament calendar, which extends from January to November with constant continental travel, and the improvement of conditions for tennis players in relation to contracts. However, in January 2026, the Serbian athlete announced his resignation from the PTPA, claiming that the association’s principles no longer corresponded to his vision.
