New Android function simplifies proximity file sharing on Pixel and Samsung
Android’s Quick Share feature, similar to Apple’s AirDrop, will now allow you to exchange files and contact information between compatible devices with a tap. The update, which was announced by Google, will begin rolling out from August 12, 2026 for Pixel 6 series phones and newer models. Soon, the functionality will also reach Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Fold 8 and Flip 8 devices.
This new “tap to share” feature uses NFC and proximity technologies to simplify the sending process. It allows users to share contact data, photos and videos wirelessly, simply by opening the sharing menu and bringing the two devices together. Google also reported that the new feature will be extended to “more Android devices by the end of the year”, but did not detail which models would be covered.
