Former right-back Daniel Alves was ordered to pay a fine of US$2.25 million, equivalent to around R$11.65 million, to the Mexican club Pumas as compensation. The decision was ratified by the Swiss Court on June 11, 2026, confirming a previous verdict issued by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on the case.
Daniel Alves’ contract with the Mexico City team was terminated in January 2023. The termination occurred shortly after the former player’s arrest in Barcelona, where he was accused of sexual abuse. The athlete remained detained for 14 months and was released in March 2025, when the Spanish Court overturned his conviction.

Initially, Pumas claimed a higher compensation, of US$5 million (approximately R$26 million at current prices), plus another US$1 million (approximately R$5.2 million) relating to image rights already paid. The Mexican club’s request was based on a clause in Daniel Alves’ contract that provided for the consequences of termination without just cause.
The first instance, the FIFA Court, denied Pumas’ request, leading the club to appeal to CAS. In September 2025, the Court ruled in favor of Pumas and ordered the Brazilian player to pay the fine.
Subsequently, the case went to the Swiss Federal Court, which, on June 11, 2026, confirmed the former side’s obligation to pay the US$2.25 million fine. This confirmation from the Swiss body represents the final stage of the appeal process, solidifying the decision in favor of the club.
In addition to the main amount, Daniel Alves will have to cover 17 thousand Swiss francs (the equivalent of R$ 108.79 thousand) in legal costs and another 19 thousand Swiss francs (approximately R$ 121.59 thousand) in procedural costs.
Currently 43 years old, Daniel Alves recently became the owner of Sporting Clube de São João de Ver, a team in the 3rd division of Portuguese football, marking a new phase in his career after the legal events.
