PNY Technologies has put its CS2341 M.2 NVMe Gen4 x4 SSD on sale in Europe, aimed at PlayStation 5 owners, desktop PC builders and users of external enclosures. The drive reads data at up to 7,100 MB/s and writes at up to 6,200 MB/s, with capacity of up to 1 TB. The suggested price is £199.99 in the United Kingdom and €238.35 in the European Union, and sales to end consumers began on Monday.

The drive was designed for demanding games and for professional audio and video editing in high resolution. The company says it comes with an extruded aluminum heatsink already fitted at the factory, which surrounds the memory chips to limit temperature rises during long stretches of continuous processing.

How the aluminum heatsink keeps performance steady under heat

Overheating ranks among the main physical obstacles for solid-state drives on PCIe Gen4 buses. When controllers reach critical temperatures, protection circuits cut transfer rates to prevent lasting damage to the chips.

The CS2341 uses a dense aluminum mass with longitudinal fins placed directly against the NAND flash memory chips and the controller. That layout spreads heat evenly across the metal casing, which the company says prevents temperature spikes even when the drive runs close to its rated transfer capacity in confined spaces. The metal block was sized to fit the internal expansion bay of the PS5, so the console’s protective metal cover still closes properly.

In tests with external enclosures connected through Thunderbolt, the unit sustained average transfers of 3,084 MB/s for reads and 2,938 MB/s for writes. It sent 179 GB of mixed files without interruption in about one minute. Those figures point to stable thermal behavior even outside enclosures with active airflow.

Approved for PS5 and desktop PCs, with speeds above Sony’s minimum

The manufacturer has approved the drive for direct installation in desktop computers with motherboards that have PCIe Gen4 lanes, and in Sony’s PlayStation 5. Its sequential read speed is well above the 5,500 MB/s that Sony recommends for running current-generation games without stutters or delays when loading textures.

Mounting requires only an M.2 2280 slot and the standard retention screw supplied with the target device. Because the heatsink comes attached, buyers do not need separate thermal pads or conductive tapes from other brands.

Open-world games with detailed maps and files of tens of gigabytes need instant access to graphics assets. If storage slows down during data searches, the game can show rendering errors.

From gamescom prototypes to the first sales in November

The CS2341 line moved from industrial prototypes to retail in four stages. The company gave the following dates for each step.
