Seleção of Colômbia gave Fifa the prelist of up to 55 players for Mundial 2026. Sebastián Villa’s name appears among those listed. The 29-year-old attacker plays for Independiente Rivadavia, from Argentina.
Coach Néstor Lorenzo chose not to publicly release the broad list. The Colombian federation must only announce the 26 definitive squad. Villa was already close to being called up for the March friendlies, but was left out. Agora, according to information from journalists close to the selection, is part of the preliminary group.
Villa confirms information about the prelist
The player spoke openly about the topic in a recent interview. Ele revealed that he received signals that he is among the 55 names sent to Fifa. Villa does not have direct official confirmation from the federation, but remains hopeful.
“I’ve been fighting for 6 or 7 years to be in the national team,” he said. The attacker works twice as hard to prepare. Ele has dreamed of Mundial since he was a child and follows possible news every day. The final decision depends on what he shows in the coming weeks with the club.
Villa was born into Bello, Antioquia, on May 19, 1996. Ele debuted for the main team between 2018 and 2020. Depois was also away for off-field reasons. Lorenzo had already blocked his name for previous dates, but highlighted his sporting potential.
- The player played in 18 matches in the current season with Independiente Rivadavia
- Marcou 1 goal and distributed 7 assists
- Contribuiu for good results for the Argentine team
- Tem contract valid until June 2026
- Acumula regular minutes as left winger or striker
Current Desempenho reinforces candidacy
Villa has around 1,100 minutes in the 2026 Liga Profesional Argentina. Ele records high averages in assists and play creation. Independiente Rivadavia is going through a good moment this season, and the Colombian stands out as an important player.
The team’s Argentine coach praised his commitment. Villa maintains a high pace even without frequent goals. Suas 7 assists show direct influence on attacks. Analistas point out that good performance at the club could pave the way for Colômbia’s final list.
The winger position has strong competition. Nomes like Luis Díaz and other attackers occupy natural space. Mesmo thus, Lorenzo has already demonstrated a willingness to evaluate all in-form players. Villa’s case gains special attention because of his off-field history, which has generated public debate in the past.
Outros names confirmed on the pre-list
Experienced Jogadores lead expectations. James Rodríguez, Luis Díaz, Camilo Vargas, Álvaro Montero and Richard Ríos appear as more predictable presences. The preliminary list serves to block athletes and avoid transfers or problems with clubs.
Colômbia is looking to put together a competitive group for the tournament at home and in Estados Unidos, México and Canadá. Lorenzo has led the process since 2022 and has a good record in qualifiers. The federation prioritizes secrecy to avoid unnecessary pressure on athletes.
What’s left for Villa to make the final list
The attacker needs to maintain regularity until the final cut. Fifa receives the prelist in May, but the definitive call will be made closer to the event. Villa knows that time is short and focuses on everyday life.
Ele mentioned that he talks to his family about the dream. Patience and hard work are hallmarks of current preparation. The player avoided controversy and preferred to talk about the field.
Expectations grow among fans. Alguns sees Villa as an option for speed and assistance on the sides. Outros question his return after years away. Lorenzo will decide based on performance and tactical group.
