A violent collision with a goalkeeper left Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel in intensive care on Monday, November 2, 2026, and forced the Spanish second-division match against Andorra to be called off. The 30-year-old needed resuscitation maneuvers before he was moved to hospital.
De Miguel was chasing a long ball into the Andorra half when goalkeeper Jesús Owono left his area to clear it. Owono misjudged the timing of the ball near the centre circle and struck the Tenerife striker directly.
The impact knocked De Miguel to the grass and he did not move straight away. Medical staff ran onto the pitch at once, and referee Manuel Ángel Pérez Hernández stopped play before abandoning the match minutes later. Owono was sent off for the challenge.
Paramedics worked on him inside the ambulance
Doctors carried out continuous heart massage while De Miguel was moved from the pitch to the rescue vehicle. Spanish media reported a cardiac arrest, and accounts differ on the exact sequence of events.

The medical team said the player was breathing without mechanical ventilation, although he remained unconscious. He was then taken urgently to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where he is under observation in an intensive care unit.
Match stays unfinished while league and clubs set protocols
The league and both clubs are defining safety protocols for the player’s clinical care before they set a new date for the match. Tenerife had built a 2-0 lead earlier in the game before Andorra equalized late on.
