The Rio de Janeiro club Flamengo began its trip to Portugal this Sunday afternoon. The team aims to carry out an intensive interseason in the European country, with the return to Rio de Janeiro scheduled for July 12th. This preparation period is crucial to align the players’ physical and tactical conditioning, taking advantage of the break from intense domestic calendars to focus on specific training and recovery, a common practice among major Brazilian clubs.
The red-and-black delegation will establish its base in the Algarve region during their stay. There, the team is scheduled to play three preparatory games: the first will be against River Plate, from Argentina, on July 3; followed by a clash with Lausanne, from Switzerland, on the 8th; and the last, against Benfica, on July 11th. All matches will take place at the Algarve Stadium.
The Flamengo team left with most of its athletes. Only players who participated or are still in the World Cup were not part of the delegation. Uruguayans Arrascaeta, Varela and De la Cruz, eliminated from the tournament last Friday, will receive a few days off and will not join the group on Portuguese soil at this time.
Until the date of the trip, the club’s board of directors had not announced any new signings. No reinforcements arrived for the squad. However, young Lorran and Rayan Lucas, who played on loan in the first half of the year, were reinstated and will be part of the interseason in Algarve.
