A British family, after a “macabre pact”, broke their silence and paid an emotional posthumous tribute to Sonia Exelby, who was 32 years old. The woman traveled to the United States to meet a man she met on a fetish website, and was killed by him, according to investigations. The fatality occurred on October 17th.

Sonia Exelby was the victim of a knife attack and her body was found buried in a wooded area in Marion County, Florida, United States.

Dwain Hall, 54 years old, is accused of violently murdering Sonia. The two had met on a website specializing in fetishes approximately two years before the crime. Such platforms, which connect individuals with interests in specific fetishistic practices, were the starting point for the relationship that culminated in this unusual tragedy.

Hall has pleaded not guilty to kidnapping and murder charges. The trial in the case is scheduled for November this year, and the defendant’s defense maintains that the events between him and the British woman were consensual in nature.

Sonia’s parents, deeply saddened, issued a touching tribute to their daughter. In the statement, they described her as a “truly beautiful person, inside and out.”

In the statement, the family said: “She had an extremely gentle soul — so gentle that she chose to be vegan because she couldn’t bear the thought of any animal suffering just so she could feed herself. That’s how she was: kind, compassionate, and full of calm love. She was incredibly talented. Sonia played the piano with stunning ease, and when she sang, she had the voice of an angel. Being around her was something special; she exuded a calm and human warmth that made everything lighter. Sonia was one of those rare people who made you feel completely free to be who you really are. She never judged or criticized; she simply accepted people as they were and loved them for it. That’s something many of us will carry with us forever. We love you so much, always and forever.”

One of Sonia’s best friends also spoke out, revealing that she “had never met a soul with a bigger or purer heart, and no one made me feel as understood as she did.” The victim’s brothers also paid tribute, describing her as the “sweetest, gentlest soul there was.”

Dwain Hall made a request to await the trial in freedom, but the magistrate in charge of the case denied the request.

The judge justified his decision, informing the accused that “there is a large amount of evidence against you”.

Investigations found that Sonia, who lived in Portsmouth, England, had evidence on her computer that “indicated that she was traveling to the United States to be sexually assaulted, tortured and possibly murdered.” The forensic report indicated that the British woman suffered stab wounds with depths ranging from 10 to 18 centimeters. The expert report also recorded a dry, reddish, “V”-shaped abrasion on his body, and traces of cannabinoids and alcohol were found in his blood, in sufficient quantities to affect his alertness and risk judgment.
