Spotify launched an exclusive retrospective to celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2026. The new feature, called “Spotify 20: The Party of (20) Year(s)”, allows users to revisit their musical journey through customizable cards, ideal for sharing across multiple platforms.

Unlike the traditional end-of-year Spotify Wrapped, this is an early special edition, celebrating the company’s milestone in May 2026. The experience is available to all users directly in the app, accessible through a specific address in the browser on their cell phone or tablet.

Among the data revealed by this special retrospective, the platform provides information such as:

  • The exact date of the user’s first interaction with Spotify;
  • The inaugural song heard on the service and the total number of times it was played;
  • The overall sum of tracks played since account creation;
  • The most listened to artist since the beginning and the accumulated playing time.

After the analysis, Spotify generates an exclusive playlist with the 120 tracks most listened to by the user throughout their journey on the platform. On mobile devices, you can view the number of times each song has been played.

Just like the year-end retrospective, digital cards can be shared on social media. A specific final card for sharing summarizes the favorite artist and the first recorded song.

Spotify’s trajectory and the 20-year mark

Although the official launch of the service took place in October 2008, the company Spotify was established in Stockholm in 2006, by founders Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon. At that time, high-speed internet was new, and real-time audio streaming was not as common as file downloading.

When it began operations in the market in 2008, Spotify already had capital of US$21 million, coming from investments and partnerships with major record labels. Two years later, in 2010, the platform already had a collection of 10 million songs.

Since then, the music industry landscape and the streaming sector have undergone major transformations. Currently, Spotify competes with important platforms such as YouTube Music and Apple Music, and offers a wide range of features that were unthinkable in 2008.
