Actors Wagner Moura and Greta Lee shared the challenges and intense preparation for their roles in Netflix’s new psychological thriller, “The Last House”. In interviews given on August 2, they revealed how they explored survival instincts to play a couple trapped in their own home.

The production follows a family of four who, suddenly, find themselves unable to leave the house. Confined, they must join forces as supplies begin to run low and a mysterious external threat keeps them cloistered, testing each one’s emotional and physical limits.

Emotional and psychological challenges of the plot

Actress Greta Lee, known for her work in “Past Lives”, explained that one of the most complex aspects during recording was portraying her character’s emotional breakdown. She highlighted how this deterioration profoundly affects family ties, both between spouses and in the relationship with children. The narrative explores the fragility of human connections in extreme situations.

Intense preparation for a survival scenario

To give authenticity to the characters, the actors had the support of a survival expert, Megan Hine. Collaboration was fundamental to understanding the reactions of the human body under conditions of deprivation.

  • What happens physiologically after prolonged periods without water.
  • Behavioral changes resulting from lack of food.
  • The adoption of almost primitive behaviors in moments of despair.

Greta Lee explained that although the expert was in outdoor survival, the team adapted the knowledge for the film’s indoor setting, which made the preparation experience unique and inspiring.

Creative film set engineering

One of the aspects that most impressed the actors was the complexity of the scenography. Wagner Moura described the process as an “incredible engineering work”, something he had never seen in his career.

The house, a central element of the plot, was built specifically for the film and served as the only setting for the entire story. In the second part of the film, the place was transformed to simulate an aquarium. This innovation allowed filming to be carried out outside, providing a different perspective and increasing the feeling of confinement and external observation.

Exclusive release on the streaming platform

“The Last House” promises to be an immersive experience for Netflix subscribers, which will release the thriller on August 7, 2026. The production focuses on psychological tension and the human capacity for resistance in adverse conditions.
