The promising start to the season, with full success in the first four games, generated great expectations among Monaco fans for the eagerly awaited clash in the French Championship. The team leads the competition under the command of Filipe Luís and will face defending champions Paris Saint-Germain in the third round on September 1, 2026, counting on the strong presence of their fan base.

The visiting section of the Parc des Princes, which had four thousand tickets available for the game, saw tickets purchased by Monaco fans in just four minutes.

This wave of enthusiasm from Monegasque fans has a solid basis. Filipe Luís’ team was the only one to achieve victories in the first two rounds of the French Championship, with 1-0 victories over Le Havre away from home and 2-0 against Olympique de Marseille. Furthermore, the results in the Conference League playoffs, with 3-2 in the first leg and 4-1 in the second leg, guaranteed a place in the main stage of the tournament.

On the other hand, Paris Saint-Germain has had an inconsistent start to the season. They won the UEFA Super Cup by beating Aston Villa 2-1, but were defeated in the French Super Cup by Lens, with a score of 1-0. In the French Championship, the team only occupies 11th place, accumulating two 2-2 draws against Rennes and Lille.

Despite his opponent’s irregular performance, Filipe Luís remains cautious and is not fooled by recent results.

“PSG has the best players and the best coach in the world, one of the biggest names in the history of football. It is clear that many athletes joined the squad late during the pre-season, but everyone recognizes their excellence. However, it is clear that I will develop a strategy to seek victory. I never enter the field with the intention of being defeated”, stated the Brazilian coach.

The game scheduled for September 1, 2026 will also represent Filipe Luís’ reunion with Paris Saint-Germain, around eight and a half months after the FIFA Intercontinental Cup decision. On that occasion, Flamengo, under his command, drew 1-1 with PSG, but ended up losing the title on penalty kicks, which had Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov as the highlight of saving four shots.
