With the arrival of September, the football calendar enters its most decisive phase, but behind the scenes remains full of news. Among them, the chance for Botafogo to receive money from the United States and the confirmation of new destinations for the Brazilian team’s commitments under the command of Carlo Ancelotti.
Attention turns first to the Rio club, which could be awarded an unexpected sum in the coming days. This possibility arises from an imminent transfer involving striker Rafael Navarro, who is about to leave the Colorado Rapids to join St. Louis City, in a transaction valued at 12 million dollars, the equivalent of around 71.1 million reais at the current price.
Even without direct participation in the negotiation process, Botafogo has the potential to benefit financially, in recognition of its contribution to the athlete’s training.
Navarro played through the youth divisions and also with the black and white club’s professional squad between 2020 and 2021. The estimate indicates that the team may be entitled to approximately 1% of the total transfer value, through the FIFA Solidarity Mechanism.
If the transfer is completed at the projected values, Botafogo could pocket around 120 thousand dollars, approximately 711 thousand reais.
However, this value still depends on the official change of club and the effective application of the FIFA mechanism. The compensation is directed to institutions that participated in the development of players and takes into account the period in which the athlete was in their youth categories.
Rafael Navarro left Brazilian football in 2023, after a spell at Palmeiras, and began his journey in Major League Soccer with the Colorado Rapids. In the United States, the center forward consolidated his space, becoming a fundamental piece in the team’s attack. He has 114 appearances, 44 goals scored and 13 assists for the North American team.
St. Louis City’s interest reflects, among other reasons, the performance and consistent numbers that the striker has shown in MLS. The possible transfer marks a new phase in Rafael Navarro’s career outside Brazil and, at the same time, represents a potential new source of revenue for Botafogo, years after the player’s departure.
This eventual payment highlights the relevance of investment in training talent in football. Through the FIFA Solidarity Mechanism, clubs that collaborated in the development of an athlete can receive a share of certain transactions.
In the specific case of Rafael Navarro, the likely transfer to Botafogo is linked to the training period, and the final amount will only be determined after the negotiation has been completed.
Ancelotti’s Brazilian team confirms friendlies in Asia
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed on September 3 that the Brazilian team will have commitments against Japan and Singapore in friendlies during the month of November. With these two games, the team led by Carlo Ancelotti will end the year with five preparatory matches after the World Cup, all of which will take place outside Brazilian territory.
The clash against Japan is scheduled for November 14th, while the clash against Singapore will take place on November 17th. Both matches will be played at Singapore’s National Stadium.
With the officialization of the November friendlies, all of the Brazilian team’s games in the post-World Cup period will take place on the Asian continent. The Italian coach will call the squad for the first three friendlies on September 9, at the CBF headquarters, located in Rio de Janeiro. In recent weeks, Ancelotti has been closely following matches played in Europe, observing players who could be part of the Brazilian team’s next lists.
