Celebrity hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos documented the styling method behind human rights lawyer Amal Clooney during her official visit to Greece in September. The professional maintains her camera-ready hair across international speaking engagements and diplomatic summits.
Giannetos styled the 48-year-old mother of twins Alexander and Ella for several high-level engagements across Athens after she arrived directly from appearances at the Venice Film Festival to attend meetings alongside international leaders and government dignitaries.
Her public itinerary in Athens included formal presentations before political authorities. Clooney addressed attendees at the Economist conference during the travel schedule. She also met with the Prime Minister, the First Lady, and the President of Greece.
Technique behind the wavy finish for Athens meetings
Giannetos explained the routine he selected to keep her hair styled throughout consecutive public duties. He stated that he relies on an overnight blowout to give the strands time to settle and create natural waves.
The routine requires preparation.
Giannetos detailed the exact sequence used to construct the hairstyle before morning appearances:
- A polished blowout executed the previous evening with tight curls added to the lengths.
- A thorough brushing the following morning to loosen the curls into wavy volume.
- Hairpins secured overnight for individuals who manage thinner hair strands.
Specific steps tailored for different hair textures
The stylist indicated that the approach changes depending on hair thickness. While Clooney carries naturally thick hair, Giannetos outlined an adjusted method for other clients.
He noted that for people with fine hair, he keeps the curls pinned up overnight and removes the pins the day after.
The pin technique holds the curl structure firmly against gravity until the morning brushing releases the final shape.
Styling work with George Clooney on film sets
Giannetos also handles grooming for actor George Clooney. Their working relationship began shortly after the stylist met Amal Clooney.
Giannetos recounted his initial apprehension when cutting the Ocean’s Eleven actor’s hair for the first time, recalling that he warned himself not to ruin the assignment.
Their collaboration later expanded directly to film sets. George Clooney brought Giannetos to work on the production crew of his film Jay Kelly.
