Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar still sit at the top of football’s money rankings in 2026, with club salaries, contracts and sponsorship deals that put them far above most of their peers. Ronaldo and Messi hold the first and second places in the 2026 global ranking of annual earnings, a fourth straight season for Ronaldo and the 12th time for Messi in 13 years. Neymar, meanwhile, has seen his pay on the pitch restructured after leaving Saudi Arabia and returning to Santos.

The three players work under different models in the Saudi Pro League, in Major League Soccer (MLS), the top football league in the United States, and in the Campeonato Brasileiro. Even so, all three stay at the top of accumulated wealth in the sport.

How the Al Nassr contract lifts Ronaldo to the top of the list

Ronaldo’s estimated earnings reached US$ 300 million over the past year before taxes, according to Forbes, which ranks him first. At 41, he became the first active player to pass US$ 2 billion in gross career earnings, a figure Sportico puts at US$ 2.1 billion.

Most of that money comes from his contract with Al Nassr, of Saudi Arabia, which runs until June 2027. The deal pays between US$ 235 million and US$ 250 million a season in fixed salary, performance bonuses and commercial obligations tied to the club. The approximate base salary equals 208.4 million euros a year, or about 17.37 million euros a month.

Outside the pitch, Ronaldo earns between US$ 50 million and US$ 65 million a year from global sponsors such as Nike and Herbalife. His estimated net worth ranges from US$ 1.4 billion to US$ 1.92 billion, supported by gyms, hotels, perfume lines, real estate and a 25% stake in Spain’s UD Almería.

Santos salary and image rights change Neymar’s earnings mix

Neymar‘s pay changed sharply between 2024 and 2026. At Al Hilal, in Saudi Arabia, from 2023 to early 2025, his contract paid US$ 80 million a year in salary, or US$ 108 million to US$ 110 million with endorsements, which placed him seventh in the world ranking at the time.

After returning to Santos in 2025, he renewed until December 31, 2026, a deal the club announced officially on January 6, 2026. Neymar now has the highest registered salary in Brazilian football, but he left the top ten and sits 11th with US$ 38 million a year, of which US$ 10 million comes from the pitch and US$ 28 million from outside it. His fixed monthly pay at Vila Belmiro is between R$ 4.14 million and R$ 4.5 million, about R$ 53.8 million a year, which is R$ 1.5 million more than Memphis Depay, of Corinthians, the second-highest salary in the country.

The package with Santos, led by president Marcelo Teixeira, lets the player receive up to 90% of revenue from marketing and licensing projects tied to his image. The package includes a minimum of R$ 85 million, about US$ 15 million, for image rights, which the NR Sports company run by his father, Neymar da Silva Santos, will receive. Debts of R$ 90 million to R$ 95 million are being paid in installments until the end of December 2026. With bonuses and commercial transfers added, his monthly income at the club can reach R$ 21 million.

Across 16 years of professional career, including spells at Santos, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, where he moved for 222 million euros in 2017, and Al Hilal, his total wealth at age 34 is estimated at up to R$ 6.5 billion in domestic surveys. International estimates place his liquidity between US$ 200 million and US$ 400 million, or R$ 1.5 billion to R$ 2.4 billion.

He keeps about 20 active endorsement contracts, led by sportswear maker Puma, which pays R$ 140 million a year, plus partnerships with Red Bull and Mercado Livre. His hard assets exceed R$ 500 million and include more than 150 properties in Brazil and abroad, among them mansions in Mangaratiba, Santos and São Paulo. He also owns a private jet valued at between R$ 250 million and R$ 280 million, a helicopter estimated at R$ 50 million to R$ 52 million, and cars from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley and Rolls-Royce.

Inter Miami pay and new business ventures lift Messi’s income

In the United States, Messi remains second among the world’s best-paid players. Playing for Inter Miami in MLS, he is estimated to earn between US$ 140 million and US$ 150 million a year. The US$ 145 million mark appears in October 2026 surveys, above the US$ 135 million recorded in earlier seasons.

His Inter Miami contract guarantees between US$ 60 million and US$ 70 million a year in salary and on-field bonuses, plus an equity clause in Inter Miami CF. The other US$ 70 million to US$ 75 million come from commercial deals, including profit sharing from Apple’s streaming subscriptions, sales of Adidas products and older sponsorships such as Pepsi.

Messi’s estimated wealth grew from US$ 650 million to about US$ 1 billion in 2026. Through Edificio Rostower SOCIMI, which holds hotels, offices and properties in Europe valued at about US$ 200 million, he took part in a stock market listing in 2025 at a valuation of 223 million euros. The company also bought the former Via Wagner shopping centre for 11.5 million euros, or US$ 13.5 million.

Messi also expanded into drinks and entertainment. He co-founded Más+ Next Generation Beverage Co., which launched the hydrating drink Más+ by Messi with Mark Anthony Brands, and created the audiovisual production company 525 Rosario with Smuggler Entertainment.

Mbappé, Haaland and Vinícius Jr. move up the 2026 top ten

The rise of a new generation has changed the group of the ten best-paid players, although Ronaldo and Messi kept the first two places. Three players stand out among the newcomers in the 2026 list.

  • Kylian Mbappé, Real Madrid: third place, with US$ 95 million to US$ 105 million in total earnings, including US$ 70 million on the field and US$ 25 million in sponsorships.
  • Erling Haaland, Manchester City: fourth place, with US$ 80 million to US$ 85 million, including US$ 60 million in salary and bonuses and US$ 20 million in commercial revenue.
  • Vinícius Jr., Real Madrid: fifth place and current leader among Brazilian players, earning US$ 60 million (about R$ 309 million) to US$ 67 million a season.

Daily earnings and social media value

Converted into daily averages, the contracts show the gap between the Saudi, US and South American markets. In earlier surveys, while Neymar was still on the Al Hilal payroll, Ronaldo earned about R$ 2.7 million a day, Neymar around R$ 2.2 million and Messi R$ 820 thousand.

With the US$ 300 million contract at Al Nassr, Ronaldo’s gross daily average is above US$ 821 thousand, or more than R$ 4 million a day at the exchange rate. Neymar’s top Santos package of R$ 21 million a month comes to about R$ 700 thousand a day, before his 20 global sponsorships.

Personal brand remains the main factor keeping the three players’ income independent of age or league. Ronaldo and Neymar use the reach of their social media accounts to charge campaigns worth millions of dollars per post, while Messi focuses on equity stakes and long-term licensing. Neymar’s contract with Santos ends on December 31, 2026, and Ronaldo’s with Al Nassr runs until June 2027.
