The PlayStation 2, recognized as the best-selling video game console of all time, has cemented its position as one of the most influential platforms in history. Its vast library, which spanned thousands of titles and produced several candidates for “greatest games of all time” across different genres, was a major pillar in building this lasting reputation.

From the immersive narrative of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas to the intense action of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, the console offered something for everyone. Now, one of the most underrated games of that era is about to make a long-awaited return, and the best part is that subscribers can enjoy it at no additional cost.

Launch of Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams on the service

It has been confirmed that Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams will join the PlayStation Plus Premium catalog of classics on August 18, 2026, as announced during the recent State of Play. Although it is considered by some to be a slightly less impactful entry compared to other releases in the franchise, the addition is welcome and the game maintains its intrinsic quality.

Fan enthusiasm for arrival on modern console

The news generated several positive reactions from fans, many of them eager to revisit the title. One player lamented the lack of trophy support in the catalog’s games, but expressed delight in seeing another Onimusha available on modern hardware.

Another enthusiast stated that, despite being a step down from Onimusha 3, the cooperative experience marked his childhood, allowing him to play with his brother. He also mentioned the fun with the Street Fighter-inspired costumes in the game.

The return of the Onimusha franchise and the arrival of the fifth game

The choice of Dawn of Dreams makes sense, considering that the first two games in the series were remastered in the recent past. Additionally, production on Onimusha 5 is in full swing, with a release scheduled for September 3, 2026, in less than a month.

It is gratifying to see the Onimusha series regaining its prominence, especially after a period of lower visibility in the 2010s. For PlayStation, which seeks to strengthen the connection with its classics, this launch could be an opportunity to reaffirm confidence in the platform, complementing the other great titles that are to come in the coming months.
