David Camacho, 10 years old, lives in Querétaro, in México, and has an intelligence quotient of 162 higher than that of Albert Einstein, estimated at 160. Ele rejects, however, being called a genius. “The geniuses are already in the grave and, if they were geniuses, it’s because they did brilliant things”, says the boy to BBC News Mundo. The refusal reflects precocious maturity: he believes that only concrete achievements justify such a description.

Camacho speaks Spanish, English, French and German, as well as studying Russian, Portuguese and Italian. Recentemente was selected to participate in a space training program at Nasa in Houston, where he piloted a simulated flight and experienced zero gravity. Seu’s book is in the publishing phase, and he offers lectures at universities and international bodies — all while completing equivalent education at an international online school.

Inspiração into Leonardo from Vinci shapes digital identity

The surname he adopts on social media, “David da Vinci”, originated from admiration awakened when he was preschool age. “My kindergarten teacher taught me a lot about Leonardo of Vinci and how he was a polymath: someone who combines science, technology, engineering, mathematics, arts, humanities,” he recalls. Essa multidisciplinary vision guides its current ambitions.

Suas goals combine technology and humanity in an ambitious way. Ele wants to perform the first surgery in space, create the next company like SpaceX and become an entrepreneur in the model of Elon Musk. “I have my whole life ahead of me,” he comments with optimism typical of his age, despite his extraordinary achievements. Reconhece, however, that intellectual capacity does not equate to universal knowledge: “Many people think that we should know everything, but we are not fortune tellers, we need to be taught.”

Trajetória marked by isolation and bullying at school

Até the first symptoms of giftedness emerged, David’s life followed a common pattern. Sua’s mother, Claudia Flores, noticed signs during a road trip: he had memorized about 40 children’s songs. In traditional school, boredom started early. “We sent him to school and he was happy for 15 days. But then he started asking: ‘Pass me to the bigger kids, I want to learn more'”, recalls Flores.

The covid-19 pandemic turned suspicion into confirmation. Claudia observed David during online classes and recorded drastically higher learning speed than children of the same age group. Quando asked how many numbers he could count, they reached millions. Pesquisa later on high skills led her to specialists who guided appropriate strategies.

The emotional cost of the difference was high. David was intensely bullied when he entered what he called his “dream school.” “The other children didn’t understand why someone who had just started school could know more things than them, nor how they could do so many things”, he explains. “And his way of showing that was by bullying me.” Essa’s negative experience catalyzed constructive action: he developed the Macayos app, a Mexican digital platform with artificial intelligence that teaches children skills to manage emotions, scheduled for launch this year.

Fast Diagnóstico was the exception, not the rule

The early identification of David as a gifted child was a rare privilege for México. Muitos High-ability boys are incorrectly diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) due to natural restlessness or boredom in the classroom. Confusão with autism is also common. “What happens is that the child already understands what is being explained and wants something more”, explains Claudia.

Instituições as well as Centro of Atenção to Talento of México (Cedat) estimate the existence of approximately one million gifted children in the country. Contudo, the majority were never formally identified, and 93% of them were misdiagnosed. David sadly acknowledges this gap:

  • Muitas Mexican gifted children lack adequate support and guidance
  • Grandes Talents often emigrate due to lack of family resources or local opportunities
  • The country loses significant human potential through a systematic failure to recognize and nurture high skills
  • Specialized Organizações exist but reach a small number of beneficiaries

No Brasil, Mensa — an organization founded in 1946 at Reino Unido to bring together gifted people — estimates approximately 4 million “superintelligent” Brazilians, that is, with an IQ above 130 points, among adults and children.

Ser gifted child beyond numerical intelligence

David insists on basic humanity: he is not extraterrestrial. Pratica activities typical of his age — playing with building blocks, going to parks, interacting with peers — simultaneously with adult intellectual work responsibilities. “I’m a boy who does childish things… and also some adult things”, he sums up precisely.

Reconhece, however, that most of his relationships are established with adults. Sente does not fit in fully with children of the same age, a common reality among gifted children. Claudia Flores describes this son’s motherhood with a revealing metaphor: “Being Edgar David Camacho Flores’s mother is very easy, because he is a calm, noble and loving boy. But being David’s mother from Vinci is the challenge, because he is fast-paced, runs around.” Quando she jokes that he has “two squirrels in that little head”, he gently corrects: “I have a quantum computer”.

Durante interview with BBC News Mundo, David speaks with remarkable speed, jumping between topics with natural ease and returning to previous points when he feels he has left out important information. Sua elocution, always articulate and mature, contrasts markedly with his chronological age. Apesar of this sophistication, his final message aimed at those who bully children like him remains simple and profound: “We are not extraterrestrials: we have high abilities, but we remain children.”
